How I Got To Play My Music On TV

John Stevens I'm sure I don't need to tell you about the difficulty of promoting your own music as an indie musician.

I have been working on this problem constantly, looking for ways to bring mass audiences to my work even though I have chosen not to play live gigs, I have very little budget for promotion, and I possess an extremely dismissive attitude towards Facebook, and especially that blight on our lives, Twitter.

I did score a great success however with getting As U R (the duo that I am 50% of) a guest spot on the TV show "Good Morning" here in New Zealand.

As U R had just released the CD 'A Year Of Wednesdays' and I was trying to write up an interesting bio, and pretty much sticking to the tried-and-true as advised by those in the know.

Brett was putting his graphic arts skills to work and formulating a classy layout with some pics that he had given a Photoshop make-over to.

A friend, who is a journalist offered some help in the form of an interview which he presented to us in article form that we could use.

So far so good.
The Good Morning Show had a music review segment that I thought would be a great opportunity for us. I wanted to get our CD in front of the reviewer who seemed to have good taste but clearly had many submissions every week from all around the world.

I needed to stand out from the crowd somehow and a standard bio was not going to do it.

How I tackled the problem is here.

Hopefully you can use this example as inspiration to brainstorm your own campaigns for exposure.

Wishing you success!!
