'The Call Of The Waitakeres' was first released on cassette in 1993. The album featured 11 tracks of instrumental music evoking the tranquility of the majestic Waitakere bush, interwoven with natural sounds and birdsong.

The album was very popular with healers, massage therapists, yoga teachers and ambient music enthusiasts, but the cassette format quickly became outdated.

In 2008 John undertook a complete re-recording of the project for CD and MP3 release.
